Elderflower Craft Centre provides a space for you to have fun being creative while trying something new. With its variety of workshops and crafts including Beginner Bonsai, Terrariums, Botanical Relief Art, Macrame, Flower Pressing, Propagation and more to come, you’re bound to find something that appeals to you.
Elderflower started as a nursery where the owners could share their love of plants and all things green, and turned into a creative space when they realised, people not only wanted to buy Bonsais or Terrariums or Indoor Plants but wanted to know how to make and grow them themselves.
Here’s some information about some of our most popular upcoming workshops (there will be more dates and venues besides the ones listed so keep an eye on their socials for a workshop near you):
PROPAGATION WORKSHOP
Want to know about the different techniques of propagation and which to use for which plants? Well then this workshop is for you – as well as taking home all the cuttings you make on the day, you’ll get some already rooted plants to start your collection.
Topics covered and things included:
- Cuttings into water
- Leaf cuttings
- Stem cuttings
- Different Mediums
- Root hormone solution
- Variety of indoor and outdoor plant cuttings
Hosted at the fun and vibrant Bay Harbour Market where you can explore all the locally made produce and try the delicious food on offer – what more could you ask for?

TERRARIUM WORKSHOP
If you’ve been fascinated by these mini ecosystems that are all over social media at the moment, why not learn how they work and how to create one yourself? Under careful guidance, you’ll be shown step-by-step how to create your very own piece of tropical forest to take home with you. The workshop includes:
- 2 Hours of practical demonstration
- 4 plants for planting in your terrarium
- A selection of mosses/groundcovers to put in your terrarium
- All tools and consumables available for use including soil, tweezers, spray bottles, drainage layer, glass vessel and lid etc.

PLANT CASTING WORKSHOP
Join the Elderflower team in making some eye-catching botanical Relief Art that can be a stunning addition to your home decor or a beautiful way to preserve flowers from a special occasion. You will learn the technique and make either one large or three of your own small unique artworks. All equipment and plants are included, although, if there are any specific plants or sentimental plants you want to make memories of please feel free to bring them along, just be aware that some bigger plants might not work as well. Included in the workshop are:
- Clay
- Plaster of Paris
- Frame mould
- Roller
- Plants – although you’re welcome to bring your own
- Hook
- Acrylic Varnish
- Instruction

SUCCULENT WALL PLANTER WORKSHOP
Come and release your inner creativity by making your very own succulent wall planter! Have fun designing and planting your living artwork with instruction and guidance the whole way through. No experience is required, and all materials and plants will be provided, just bring yourself and an expectation of fun!

Although the workshops were all originally plant themed (and mostly still are) the team at Elderflower Craft Centre know that there are so many creatives and artisans around Cape Town wanting to share their skills.
