The details
Handmade cutlery initiated by Fine Art major Theresa Jo set the tone when the venture was first founded in 1991 in Johannesburg. Relocating to Kalk Bay in 1998, the gallery and a manufacturing studio in Retreat were then established.
The gallery is situated amidst Kalk Bay’s eclectic mix of historic buildings, cobbled streets, and bohemian bric-a-brac stores, making it a much-visited shopping destination. As such, Artvark’s shop is stocked full of African-themed prints, sculptures, ceramics, textiles, and steelwork available for purchase.
Artvark cutlery is part of numerous public and private collections, such as MoMA (Museum of Modern Art), Donna Karan, Oppenheimers, Paloma Picasso and Mark Spencer. Artvark steelworks can also be see in Sir Richard Branson’s private home, and in a sculpture garden and gym at Knightsbridge in Century City, Cape Town.
