Cape Town City Hall presents a permanent exhibition detailing the legacy of late President Nelson Mandela.
The museum-like exhibition includes a timeline of Mandela’s early days, his resistance to apartheid, his time on Robben Island along with other struggle veterans as well as his release on 11 February 1990 and subsequent speech delivered on the balcony of City Hall.
The exhibition consists of interpretive panels, audio-visual equipment and interactive displays. Visitors can also have a look at the life-size bronze statue of Mandela, created by artists Xhanti Mpakama and Barry Jackson, located on the balcony of City Hall.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, reservations are required before viewing the exhibition. Bookings need to be made at least 48 hours in advance via the email address provided below. Each viewing slot is 45 minutes, running from opening to closing.
