The details
Some rooms are kept substantially as she would have had them: most notably her studio where her paintbrushes, easel, rags, and painting overcoat lie as she last left them. Other rooms are more impressionistic: reflecting the character of the artist whilst housing temporary exhibitions that draw on the Irma Stern Museum holdings to engage with art and culture.
Patrons are able to view Stern’s artworks, and also all the artefacts and furniture she collected and displayed in her own eccentric home.
The collection is owned by the Irma Stern Trust, whilst the museum is administered by the University of Cape Town on behalf of the Trustees of the Irma Stern Trust created in terms of her will.
