The details
A popular place with the locals, Newlands Forest offers a myriad of paths and jeep tracks to explore.
Given that it is on the slopes of the mountain, it is easy to go wandering without getting (too!) lost. It is particularly popular for those with kids and children, with plenty of mountain streams, and a huge variety of growth.
As a conservancy area, the foest is owned and maintained by the Table Mountain National Parks Board, along with the City Parks Department of Cape Town, and includes a Fire Station, Nursery and Reservoir.
Parking can be tricky on weekend mornings, but once into the forest, the crowds dissipate into the many trails.
