Another must-do event in Cape Town this March is Extreme Festival which is one of the premier motorsport series in the country. This national championship is powered by the City of Cape Town and presented by Smile 90.4 FM at Killarney on Saturday, 18 March.
Watch South Africa’s top drivers together on one track in closely matched cars to battle it out, right here in the Mother City for one day only.
There are adrenaline-pumping races planned for the G&H Transport Extreme Supercars, GTC & SupaCup cars, the CompCare Polo Cup, and the Gazoo Racing SA Cup. Serious open-wheel fans will live for the Investchem Formula 1600s and Formula Ford Kent single-seaters – as well as the superbikes of the Kawasaki ZX10 Masters Cup.
Supercar aficionados won’t want to miss G&H Transport Extreme Supercars where exotic machines such as Lamborghinis, Porsches, Aston Martins, Audi R8s, McLarens, and highly modified street-cars battle it out against the best.
Younger drivers also get an opportunity to showcase their skills at the CompCare Polo Cup Racing sporting identical cars at this event in Cape Town.
Fans can meet South Africa’s top drivers at the Fan Walks during the lunch break and guests are welcome to catch the action from different viewing points throughout the day. The pits are also open to spectators so you can see the cars and motorcycles up close.
THINGS TO DO FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY
There’s a full programme of off-track activities and kiddies’ entertainment to keep both young and old entertained. Try public karting on the Kart Track from 10am to 5pm going at for R200 for 10 laps, 4×4 action going at for R200 for 10 laps, fan walks, fun displays, live music, and a beer garden. A dedicated Kiddies Korner means the little ones can burn off their excess energy at the coolest children’s play area on the West Coast.
A variety of food and drink outlets are set up around the circuit. Try Trackside Pub and Grill upstairs at the Clubhouse space and a tuck shop on the ground floor for traditional takeaways. Further food spots include Joubert Pits Lounge, the Bull Bar, Wat-a-Burger, and Halaal treats from Hoosain’s.
Take along your beach umbrella or gazebo, picnic basket, and cooler box. There’s also a braai area available.
