Keep the kids busy this Christmas in Cape Town while learning how to build and decorate their own Gingerbread house at Willowbridge Shopping Centre. This popular shopping centre in Cape Town is inviting children aged 3 to 12 years for daily sessions running from 15 to 22 December 2023.
The playful workshops are a stunning way to make new memories and spend quality time with the family and kids while making a special gingerbread house for the Christmas tree.
How do the Gingerbread house decorating classes work?
Book your ticket online via Quicket and head over to Willowbridge Shopping Centre for a great way to keep kids creative and entertained. In this fun and colourful class at Willowbridge Kitchen located opposite PNP, a friendly expert will guide the little ones step by step on how to assemble their own little mansion and then decorate it with an array of sugary treats.
The DIY gingerbread house kit includes everything needed to assemble and decorate from sweets to chocolates, liquorice, jelly beans, marshmallows and much more. It also includes pre-made buttercream icing in a piping bag with a nozzle.
All cake panels are handcrafted and baked with love and include Gingerbread Walls and Sweet Cement (Royal Icing). Kids will learn how to pipe icing to give the edible houses a classic Christmas look, as well as create a cute front garden and path if their creativity allows. Parents can take advantage of the bonding opportunity and help the younger ones throughout the session.
Included in each Gingerbread House kit are utensils needed to decorate, an apron and Chef’s hat for charming photo ops, and the treat kit with confectioner’s icing, sweets and other treats to decorate. Kids will walk away with new skills to practice and their very own DIY gingerbread house to display (and eat) over the holidays too.
What you need to know about the classes
There are six Gingerbread house-building sessions running daily at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, each lasting 45 minutes. A maximum of 20 kids are allowed per workshop, so advance booking via Quicket is essential. Do arrive at least 10 minutes before your session to register as the team is unable to accommodate late arrivals.
This summer school holiday activity in Cape Town is supervised and drop-and-go is welcome, but younger kids may have to be accompanied by an adult. Parents are also welcome to help the younger ones throughout the session. What’s more, the centre offers FREE parking for parents joining the classes.
Cakes and buttercream frosting contain eggs, dairy, and wheat, while cakes were baked in a factory that may contain traces of nuts. Classes all use Halaal-friendly ingredients, and the team is unable to offer gluten-free, dairy-free or egg-free alternatives. The colour of butter icing and fondant coating might vary depending on the availability of product.
