There’s another Meuse Farm Open Day event in Hout Bay coming soon to showcase a jam-packed schedule of organic produce, creative workshops and cooking demos that highlight the farm’s speciality organic fruits and vegetables and commitment to fair trade farming.

This urban farm in Hout Bay will provide several eco-friendly activities for novice farmers, culinary enthusiasts and artists alike. You can look forward to a guided tour complete with invaluable farming tips, two cooking classes with award-winning chefs, a delicious and insightful lunch, a perfume-making workshop, and an inspiring botanical illustration art class.

A guided tour of Meuse Farm with the owner, Iming Lin

Time to finally learn why your tomatoes and eggplants won’t grow! Join Meuse owner and farmer, Iming Lin on a guided tour through the fields to learn about summer and cover crops.

After more than a decade of NGO and public health work, Iming’s desire for socially and environmentally meaningful work is evident in the incredible work she does here. She also feels strongly about the visibility of women farmers: ‘We want our little girls to know that women can and do farm, drive tractors, build things, lift things, crunch numbers, love science, take charge. We want life to be joyful, full of curiosity and wonder, and engaged.’

Joh Del

Get creative at this beautiful botanical art class

Join celebrated South African artist Joh Del in seeing the farm’s beautiful botanicals and produce a whole new way, while making your own A3 illustration under his guidance.

Known for his whimsical depictions of local flora, fauna, and underwater scenes, Joh aims to transport and uplift his viewers and inspire them to spend more time enjoying and caring for nature. Boasting clients like Adidas Originals and Mr. Price Home, among others, this successful artist is one you don’t want to miss.

All art materials are supplied for the session, but guests are also welcome to bring their favourite brushes, paints, pencils, or paper, too.

Guests learn how to make three seasonally inspired dishes, made with the freshest Meuse Farm summer crops, and delve into the wonderful heritage of Cypriot and Greek cuisine.

Drawing inspiration from his travels around the world as well as his childhood memories and generational specialities, Nic brings an exciting and contemporary style of execution to the kitchen, taking somewhat familiar dishes into more experimental territory.

Dine on a farm-to-fork lunch experience

Head Chef at Meuse Farm, Caitlin Kennedy, makes culinary magic with a Mediterranean-inspired celebration of the farm’s summer crops. With a long background as both a farmer and a chef, Caitlin believes that food is more delicious when it tells a story, especially when it is a story of small producers doing amazing things for people and the environment alike.

Chef Caitlin loves talking about food systems and seasonality, so guests can feel free to ask her questions and engage. The lunch is served between 11:30am and 2pm.

Justin is one of South Africa’s foremost experts in foraging and wild mushrooms. His work is inspired by the scents of the wild places he spends time in – think dewy forests at dawn and blossoming wildflowers.

The perfumer’s keen sense of smell and knowledge of nature enables him to create novel fragrances using a variety of locally sourced materials.
