Renowned luxury accessories label, Okapi, opened their first standalone store in December 2023 in the serene setting of the Anthonij Rupert Wine Farm.
This fashion boutique in the Cape is situated in the historic Manor House, and guests can only visit by scheduled appointment. ‘Okapi stands for sustainable luxury, where every item tells a story of ethical sourcing, timeless design, and the preservation of our environment,’ says Jeanine Benjamin, Chief Operating Officer of Okapi South Africa.‘By finding a new home on the Anthonij Rupert wine farm, we’re not only highlighting our dedication to our natural environment but also becoming a destination store that is naturally integrated into one of South Africa’s finest locations.’
Okapi: A glamorous exercise in sustainability
This South African accessory label is known as a pioneer for the use of ethically sourced exotic leathers, including springbok and ostrich, as well as regionally sourced cowhides. This emphasis on local materials and craftsmanship helps empower South African artisans and communities.
Must-haves available at the store include a new limited edition rattan Nambi Clutch and the Nambi Feather Clutch, available with a new shoulder-length handle and the addition of a striking red colourway. Further hit pieces include a new decorative leather and felt handle, enabling fans to add an updated edge to existing signature bags like the Aja Pouch and the classic Yemaja.
For a truly personal and unique touch, customers can also create their bespoke bag by selecting preferred skins, colour combinations and trims. There is also a selection of exquisite jewellery and beautiful hand-drawn silk scarves on offer.
Alongside the selection of bags, the brand’s lifestyle offering has grown to include an interior decor collection. Here you’ll find tableware, such as table mats, vases and glasses; plus games, including backgammon and playing cards.
And to treat the little ones for Christmas, there’s a new kids’ memory game called Ocean Life, featuring beautiful hand illustrations of sea creatures.
Anthonij Rupert Wine Farm: An oasis of luxury and nature
Part of an estate dating back to 1694, Anthonij Rupert Wine Farm in Franschhoek is home to an impressive selection of award-winning vintages set against the backdrop of a verdant valley and the Groot Drakenstein Mountains.
The Okapi store is situated in the newly refurbished Manor House. The intimate space was thoughtfully designed by a team experienced in creating flagship boutiques for renowned luxury brands.
Featuring the original wooden ceiling, a plush custom carpet inspired by the local landscapes, curved shelving, and unique marble tables and wooden islands showcasing local flora and fauna, the space offers a sophisticated shopping experience, that can be complemented by the estate’s signature bubbly and nougat pairing.
‘The new Okapi boutique will be an exceptional addition to the fashion landscape for Franschhoek locals and visitors alike,’ Benjamin adds. ‘Allowing guests the opportunity to shop the best of South African luxury, with a group of friends, or in an intimate personal one-on-one experience.’
