The details

Follow the strains into the building, through the Mandela exhibition, and via the Council Chamber and the Auditorium to find him.

A collaboration between the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Culture Connect SA.

Filmed by David Fanyane and Tamara MacLachlan.

Where to find the QR code

You’ll find the QR code in a ground floor window between the steps and the entrance door. Look carefully!

The Cape Town City Hall, built in 1905, was the site of Nelson Mandela’s first speech as a free man, just hours after his release from 27 years’ imprisonment. It now houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to Mandela, while the auditorium is the main performance space of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
